McDonald’s Slip and Fall – Spinal Cord Injury Results in $5.67 Million Verdict

A federal jury awarded Beverly and Ruben Munguia $5.67 million dollars to compensate Mrs. Munguia for a serious spinal cord injury she sustained while her an her husband visited a McDonald’s restaurant.  The award was determined to be just compensation by a federal civil jury in U.S. District Court.  Her spinal injuries as a result of her fall included an L1 spinal compression fracture which has required two surgeries.

According to court documents, in November of 2007, Beverly Munguia slipped on a puddle of previously spilled liquid and fell to the floor at a Maui McDonald’s location. She suffered a compression fracture of the L1 vertebrae, along with other injuries, according to court documents.

The jury awarded the couple $2.67 million in special damages and $3 million for general damages,
